Remote Control

Some of you have heard this already -- I (Terry) got shipped out on business travel this week. So, while you are enjoying warm weather in Syracuse, I'm dealing with chilly weather in San Diego. (Seriously, you had me beat by 20+ degrees yesterday and will beat me by 15 degrees today!)

The plan for tonight is another 4 mile run or so. For those ready for speedwork, it is going to be a tempo run. (Warm up for 1 mile, run at your limit for 2.5 to 3 miles, then cool down for .5 miles.)

And since its about 8 weeks until the Corporate Challenge, I want some of you just running steady paced training runs to start considering doing speedwork. Next week, we'll be back to doing 1/4 mile intervals...so that will be the ideal week for people to do their first speed work training run of the year. Its not easy at first (or ever), but it will pay huge dividends by the time late June rolls around and will definitely help your performance in the Corporate Challenge.

I see from the online weather forecast that there are storms and rain in the Syracuse area today. Without me there, I can't offer much more than to use your judgement as to whether you run or not.

Mark has offered to be there and help out with any questions newer runners might have tonight -- but no guarantee of that if it is raining/storming. (So, unfortunately, you are on your own.) Hopefully the rain is minor in the afternoon and it is decent enough for most of you to get your run in. Good luck, and enjoy the warm (rainy) weather.

04/21

Don't forget that the Mountain Goat run registration gets more expensive after tomorrow night.

Today:
Chance of rain. So if you are a wicked witch, be careful out there! Maybe have your monkeys fly rain drop interference for you?

For those doing speedwork, we'll do a a 4 mile run with 3, 1/2 mile intervals interspersed throughout. For those not doing speedwork -- do what you are ready for. We'll chat a little before and or after. For any new people wondering what this speed work is all about or what its purpose is -- be sure to ask me (or Mark) about it.

He is Outta Here!

Before we begin, lets pause for a moment of silence in memory of the voice of the World [expletive deleted] Champion, Philadelphia Phillies. He was the voice of my childhood (of all my years of baseball, in fact), the voice of NFL films, and the voice of Chunky Soup Commercials. Harry Kalas died on Monday. I've probably heard more of his voice in my life than any other non-family member. It's kind of sad.

[Insert silent moment here.]

Moving on -- this is Terry here. I'm back and I'm better than ever. Ok, not really, but worse than ever is still noteworthy.

I've got a headache, so I'll be brief (for me).

1. A huge thank you to Mark for his excellent leadership while I was out surfing.

2. We are losing one of our spark plugs. Aubrey is following her heart and moving to Maryland soon. Last week was her last TRY. :-( Good luck Aubs! Keep up the hard work and maybe our running paths will cross again some day.

(Sorry for including the picture -- I couldn't help it. I'm going to miss your fresh attitude towards running. Thanks for your inspiration for the past year!)

3. You all know the routine. Show up at 5:20, run at 5:30. It's going to be nice weather so maybe you all can get your Easter candy-asses out there this week?!!

(Why is it the kid from California showed up last week and only one other person did?) No more excuses! The summer running season starts now. Two and half weeks til the Mountain Goat (register by the 22nd before the price goes up again). 10 (or 11?) weeks until the Corporate Challenge. Time for some speed work. 4 mile run with 1/4 mile intervals...

4. This has nothing to do with running, but this book has really changed my life. I used to think I was alone -- and it made me ashamed. Perhaps someone else in the group could benefit from the guidance contained in it as well?

Not TRYing

So...it's April, it's pretty windy outside, and oh yeah...it's snowing!!! Today I am going to be the antithesis of motivation...I'm already throwing in the towel. However, there is one ray of sunshine today: Terry says he will be at the park this afternoon. So, if you're up to the challenge, same time/place as usual...5:20ish, OLP. I won't lay out any speed-work this week, but by all means, go for it if you feel like. I'm sure Terry will be more than happy to give direction. For those of you that don't know Terry, he's most likely the only guy there with a tan. Hopefully I'll see you all next week.
