Winter Running

I'm now going to face the reality that very few, if anyone at all, are going to show up throughout the winter at OLP on Tuesday afternoons. I know many of you simply can't get out of work early enough, and lets face it, Syracuse winter weather can really make it easy to not go running. Last week, Katie and I made it about 200 ft in a very cold, windy, driving rain before we said "to hell with this." Therefore, I'm not going to bother posting weekly workouts for the rest of the winter. That being said, I plan on being at the park just about every Tuesday. Some days I'll be doing speedwork, sometimes (like today) I'll just be going for an easy run. So, if anybody would like to join me, that would be great. For now, I plan on starting my run about 4:15/4:20ish. I'm sure I'll have to move that time up a little earlier in a few weeks.

Terry, thanks for letting me TRY to keep things going in your absence. If you're not back in the spring, I'll be happy to get things going again until you return.

Ally, if Terry is not back by then, I promise to get better with the polls, and I'll do my best to not make them about you.

To everyone, good luck this winter, and do your best to keep running on at least a somewhat regular basis. It'll prevent you from having to start all over again in the spring. A lot, if not all of us, have made tremendous progress with our running throughout this past year, and at least for me, this group has definitely been a part of it. It's been a pleasure! Hopefully I'll see some of you throughout the winter, and if not, I'm sure I'll see all of you again in the spring.

Terry chiming in remotely again. Mark, thanks so much for your leadership of TRY in my absence! It sounds like the weather did not cooperate at all, so I'm sure that is why attendance was so poor. (By my count/spying it was 3 miserable days out of 4, and several people were there on that nicer night). So, nice job! (And for the record, I liked your posts better than my own. Maybe you can lead next spring even with me there? :-)

And come on people, someone else must think that Allyson is annoying! Speak up, the poll is anonymous.

Ditto on everything Terry said Mark, you did a great job in Terry's absense even though I only made one outing. Sorry but I am a terrible running group member! Onward and upward though! As for those of you who were interested in running through out the winter on the weekends, did anyone see this in the Fleet Feet Newsletter?

Do you get cold feet when it comes to keeping a commitment to winter running? We are here to help. This year we are happy to introduce Fleet Feet’s Cold Feet Winter Running Program. Beginning November 30th we will be holding free group runs from the store each Sunday morning starting at 8:30 a.m. The doors will open at 8 a.m. Distances will vary with different options each week and pace groups will be formed to accommodate runners of all abilities. We know it can be tough to stay motivated when the weather gets cold out, but joining a group can go a long way in keeping you dedicated.

In addition to the benefit of having a group, the Cold Feet Running Program will feature an incentive system based on points. Attending a Sunday morning group run will earn you five points. Running with another group member during the week will earn you one point. Competing in a local race will earn you five points. Competing in a snowshoe race will earn you six points.

The staff at Fleet Feet will keep track of your points so all you have to do is concentrate on staying warm and logging some miles this winter. Prizes to be earned based on point accumulation include: water bottles, socks, Cold Feet technical shirts, gym bags, and free shoes. We will also have refreshments available after each group run and random prize giveaways on various Sundays throughout the program.

If you want to win prizes, stay active and meet new people this winter season, come join us on Sunday mornings at Fleet Feet. If you have questions about the Cold Feet Running Program, contact Ken Hammond at 315-446-1444.

Might be something interesting to join in with as a TRY Outing!?

I have to say, overall I'm very pleased with the results of this latest poll so far. You guys rock! :)
This is maybe a week longer than we ran as TRY last year so I think you did pretty good keeping it up!
So, I've been telling everyone I don't have skating next week and could run with TRY...that's not true. I found out yesterday that I DO have skating, so I won't be TRYing but I'll be around to hang out afterwards if anyone wants to since Terry should be in town. Sorry about that! Hope you have warm clothes for when you land Terry, we got a lot of snow yesterday!!
Thanks for the well-wishes...I'm tired of waiting and ready to run and get this thing dunn NOW!! haha. Have fun and good luck at the Jingle Bell Run! It was great last year, a really fun way to finish off the running season, and remember to wear some bells!! I should just be finishing up the marathon when you guys start so I'll try and remember that you guys will be running the final 3.1 miles with me for inspiration...you better all be running them a lot faster than me by that point though, haha!!
